The one-stop Harbor Freight paint sprayer review! One of the most useful and efficient tools, a well-equipped DIY nut has in their toolkit is a spray gun. Spray-painting was born out of the necessity to paint large surfaces fast. In fact, one of its first recorded uses was way, way back – in the 1880s – on the South Pacific Railway line.

5 Best Harbor Freight Paint Sprayers Reviewed

1. Harbor Freight 4 oz. Adjustable Detail Spray Gun

This gun is so small it could probably fit in a woman’s purse. As that old saying goes, surprises come in small packages. And this little spray gun is a big surprise.

It gives an even finish, it blends well and there is very little overspray. Because it is so small it can get into many of those hard-to-reach places like the back of facia boards and the underside of furniture.

The spray pattern is adjustable from the usual circular pattern to a fine spray for more detailed work The clean-up can be the worst part of spray painting. But this spray gun comes with a brush and a wrench for maintenance.

The 4 oz metal cup can be easily be removed and rinsed after use. If you’re struggling to remove the needle, you might be doing it wrong. This little gun is great for detail work and for touch up jobs.

2. Harbor Freight 64 oz. Professional HVLP Spray Gun Kit from TNM

As much as you might love the mini spray gun above, I’m afraid you’ll be let down by its big brother – this 64 oz. kit. This Harbor Freight paint sprayer kit includes a sprayer, a 64 oz. aluminum cup with a regulator and two 80 in. long hoses.

On the plus side, its cup is remote so the spray gun is easier to handle. You can carry the cup by its handle, or even hook it to your belt. This high volume, low pressure (HVLP) spray gun has been designed for automotive and industrial use and should be ideal for spraying primer.

It boasts a 75% transfer efficiency so there are little overspray and minimal material wastage. I think it could be great for spraying large areas such as trucks, vans, and buses.

The biggest problem with the sprayer is that the gun itself tends to leak and things can get messy. In this case, Harbor Freight’s rigorous testing has let them down. But they are usually quite quick to correct problems so I hope they take note of this and modify this product. You can find better pressure pot spray guns here.

3. Harbor Freight Air Siphon Spray Gun Kit by USATNM

This is probably the most industrial of the spray gun kits tested for this Harbor freight paint sprayer review. Setting up the air pressure and fluid flow on the pressure pot can be complicated, but once you know what you’re doing, it’s a cinch.

A few models like this come with a paint pressure tank and regulator in the kit. But this kit comes with just the gun and two 25ft hoses. Made from stainless steel and aluminum, the spray gun features conventional material transfer and a siphon feed.

The two hoses, one rubber, and one PVC can be replaced individually, which is a big plus. For me and my DIY jobs, this is just too much spray gun. I’d leave it to the professionals.

4. Harbor Freight 2 Pc Professional Automotive HVLP Air Spray Gun Kit -USATM

This model is such a great deal. This kit comes with two spray guns: one a small detail gun with 4 oz. bottle, and a larger gun with 20 oz. bottle. The bigger one comes with two nozzles and needles.

The kit also comes with an array of cleaning brushes and a wrench. All the goodies come in a handy, hardy carry case. The little gun is great for small detail work. One drawback for me is that the plastic gravity cup has a plastic thread that can easily wear out if you’re not careful.

The cup for its bigger companion has a metal thread, which will last longer. The guns, made from aluminum, feel sturdy and up to most jobs. I’ve seen it do a wonderful job on cars and DIY projects around the house.

Of course, I wouldn’t use it to spray paint my new Mercedes, but it would certainly do the job sprucing up an old clunker.

5. Harbor Freight 32 oz. Heavy Duty Multi-Purpose Air Spray Gun HFJ14

This no-nonsense paint spray gun is ideal for automotive or industrial work. There’s nothing fancy about it, including the price. It’s a sturdy gun built for hard work. The pistol grip has been ergonomically designed so it’s comfortable to use.

You won’t suffer from hand fatigue at all. It features a 32 oz. aluminum dripless siphon cup and the spray gun has an adjustable pattern.

Harbor Freight Spray Gun Range

Harbor Freight is a good place to find a value for money gun. They are family-owned and run and they have been around for four decades, selling hard working tools to hardworking people.

Their products are put through a rigorous series of tests that go far beyond the range of normal use. In short, the folks at Harbor Freight know a heck a lot about tools. They have a wide range, far beyond paint sprayers including saws, hand tools and much more.

You can pick up great deals from Harbor Freight because they buy directly from the same factories that supply the more expensive brands. The stock their own brand as well as others but in this review, we will focus on their range of spray guns.

Additionally, they sell directly on Amazon which makes it even easier to find a bargain. The Harbor paint sprayer range includes small spray guns well-suited to detail work. And then there are the heavy-duty spray guns for larger jobs that require something more robust.

Two of the most important things to consider when buying a spray gun is the degree of overspray and the clean-up.

Luckily most of Harbor Freight spray guns come with brushes and a wrench to help with clean-up. And most of their products are designed to minimise overspray.

About The Harbor Freight Brand

And in 1887, a Marshall Fields store supervisor was faced with the monumental task of whitewashing the entire sub-basement of the store in Chicago. He said, “hell no” to the paintbrush and developed his own cold-water, hand-pumped spraying machine to help him with the job.

Now the range of spray guns available is daunting, to say the least. There is a spray gun for every kind of job, from minor touch-ups and craft projects to painting your entire house.

There are many well-known brands on the market including GracoWagnerTitan, and Fuji.

Conclusion

If you’re feeling intimidated by the choices available, I hope this Harbor Freight paint sprayer review has been helpful. Spray-painting sure has come a long way in a hundred years.

Thanks you! My husband owns an auto body repair shop and I wanted to know what I was doing before buying a gun for residential use. Your videos are always understandable and comprehensive. I appreciate them very much.
